More Detailed Results, More Accurate Treatment

When necessary, we are able to perform abdominal or cardiac ultrasounds to get a better look at what is ailing your pet.

Abdominal Ultrasound

At Cypress Creek Animal Hospital, our advanced abdominal ultrasound technology provides a non-invasive, real-time imaging solution to evaluate your pet’s internal organs, including the liver, kidneys, spleen, bladder, intestines, pancreas, and reproductive organs. This diagnostic tool helps us detect tumors, organ enlargement, cysts, stones, fluid buildup, and gastrointestinal disorders, making it an essential part of diagnosing chronic vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, abnormal bloodwork, and other internal health concerns.

How the Procedure Works:

  • Abdominal ultrasounds are painless and typically do not require sedation, though a mild sedative may be recommended for pets who are anxious or have difficulty staying still.
  • The area to be examined is shaved to ensure clear imaging.
  • A small probe (transducer) with ultrasound gel is placed against the abdomen, sending sound waves that create live images of internal organs.
  • The procedure takes 30–45 minutes, and results are reviewed by our veterinarians to determine the next steps in your pet’s care.

Cardiac Ultrasound (Echocardiogram)

A cardiac ultrasound (echocardiogram) is a highly effective non-invasive tool that allows us to examine your pet’s heart chambers, valves, and blood flow in real time. This procedure is essential for diagnosing and monitoring heart murmurs, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, valve disease, and other cardiac abnormalities.

How the Procedure Works:

  • In most cases, an echocardiogram is performed without sedation, as it is a painless procedure. However, for highly anxious pets, a mild sedative may be used to keep them calm.
  • The fur around the chest area may be shaved to improve ultrasound clarity.
  • A transducer probe is gently placed on the chest, emitting sound waves that generate a live image of the heart’s structures and blood flow.
  • The procedure typically lasts 30–60 minutes, and results are reviewed to determine appropriate treatment or further testing.

Both abdominal and cardiac ultrasounds are vital diagnostic tools that help us provide accurate, early detection and tailored treatment plans, ensuring the best care for your pet’s long-term health.
